Liberty Galați (ArcelorMittal Galați)

Liberty Galați, Romania's largest integrated steel producer, has ~3,000 employees on technical unemployment since September 2025 due to financial crisis and insolvency proceedings. The company accumulated debts of ~3.4 billion lei. In May 2026, rolling mills are being restarted in a tolling (rental) regime as a temporary measure. A new restructuring plan was filed with Galați Tribunal on May 4, 2026, proposing asset sale at auction starting at 444 million euros (70% of market value). Judicial hearing scheduled for June 24, 2026. The Romanian government declared Liberty Galați a company of strategic interest, enabling salary payments from the Guarantee Fund.
